The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a voluntary, non-profit, association of trained Amateur Radio operators who are willing to donate time and equipment during times of emergency.  North Carolina ARES is broken up into Areas, each under the jurisdiction of a District emergency coordinator.  Guilford County ARES is located in the Central region and serves Guilford County residents through the coordination and direction of Greensboro - Guilford County Emergency Management Assistance Agency and through the North Carolina ARES Organization.

North Carolina ARES has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the North Carolina Emergency Management Agency which can be found here...

Public service communication has been a traditional responsibility of the Amateur Radio Service since 1913. In today's Amateur Radio, disaster work is a highly organized and worthwhile part of day-to-day operation, implemented principally through the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES)
